4 years ago, this time

Roughly four years ago this time, my family went through something tragic and miraculous at the same time. Over the weekend, I had the chance to go to a UCSF’s 20th Anniversary Celebration of Liver Transplants with my parents. It was really incredible. What’s amazing was that you can barely distinguish between the people who’ve had transplants from perfectly healthy people.

Although in the day to days, we tend to forget what God has done for us and in turn using mom as a living testimony to His power over death, times like these remind us of His providence. Below is a wordle of that post I wrote so many years ago.

For those who partnered with us in prayer, thank you for your support and your love. We still hold it dear in our hearts.

We’re back from Germany

germany train
(Sorry for the poor quality of the map above. It was a cheap overlay of two maps I got from the German Train site.)

Please pardon the lack of pictures. I took a mess, but have been sick and recovering from the trip. I finally downloaded my pictures onto my computer last night and have yet to filter through them. For the time being, you may have seen some pics show up on my facebook or my flickr. If you haven’t already seen them, go look now.

Aside, we had a wonderful time. Very rushed, but very fun. It was our first time really railing it on the Deutsche Bahn. We bought the Germany Rail Pass that let us travel anywhere within Germany for a week, unlimited.

Major highlights:

Lowlights:

  • Cold weather + rain
  • Not eating good Döner
  • Getting sick after the fact
  • Learning the subway system after leaving Munich.

Stay tuned! I hope to get a few sneak peak pictures up soon enough!

My carbon footprint, compared.

Greetings from München! We arrived safely despite a bit of disorientation and a very poor (street) guide by the train station. As I tweeted, Rothenburg was even more awesome than I recalled in my jr high days and very filled with Rick Steves folks–it’s really kinda funny that way.

I digress.

So we’re taking the train from Munich to Füssen (Castle Neuschwanstein) tomorrow morning. As we were planning our trip on my iPhone (hence the sideways picture) I noticed a link about my Energy Consumption for this planned trip. I clicked. The picture you see is what I got. Wow. I knew Germans were very green, but having this information very easily accessible via the train site is very cool.

It’s a good thing we’re taking the train!

Good night!

Ignorance can be blissful

As I write this in the bed of my hotel room, my ankle itches as if something has bitten it.

Remember that one Nightline report about how disgusting hotels can get? Sometime I feel as I travel more and stay at various hotels, I get more paranoid about the conditions in the hotel room and what is actually clean and what is not. When I work at the desk, I always lay down a towel on the seat because some tv show said they found traces of fecal matter, even at 4-star hotels. Ew. I never use the glass cups unless I wash it thoroughly first because they showed some hotels using the same towel they just wiped the toilet on the cups. Omg.

What is wrong with me??

Ironically, last wkd in Big Sur camping, I’d get dirty, not wash, and get smokey without a bat of the eye.

Perhaps um just paranoid of ppl?

Hrm.
